The Avenue Church is a community of Jesus followers in Glasgow, KY, committed to Loving God, Loving Others, and helping others do the same.

Founded in 1968 as the Columbia Avenue Church of Christ, we have roots in the Restoration Movement, and have grown into a nondenominational community that values unity in diversity. Our family is made up of people with diverse religious backgrounds, viewpoints, and beliefs, and we cherish the fact that God has brought us together in unity, not conformity. We’re always eager to learn more about the Way of Jesus, and welcome anyone interested in following Him alongside us.

We average 100 attendees on Sunday mornings, and our gatherings include all ages, including a large number of young families and small children. Our Lead Pastor and his family joined our community when they moved to Kentucky from Texas in the Fall of 2021.

Our current gatherings include one Sunday morning worship service, Bible Classes for all ages afterward, and Connect Groups which meet in homes throughout the week. Our Ave Kids ministry offers age-appropriate and exciting formation for our children during Sunday worship and Bible Classes.

We’re very committed to loving our neighbors as well as we can by feeding, clothing, housing, and meeting physical needs in our community. Please visit our ministries page to see some of the ways we’re currently doing this.

Worship at the Avenue is currently a blend of a capella singing and singing accompanied by instruments. On any given Sunday we may sing traditional hymns, something that hit the radio last month, or both. While our worship is fairly blended now, we’re committed to emphasizing contemporary, instrumental worship, and hope a Worship Pastor will help us do so.

We’re hiring a Worship Pastor, but more than anything we’re looking for a man or woman who’s passionate about following Jesus and helping others do the same.

This person’s primary focus will be to help lead our congregation in weekly worship. We know this entails extensive planning, preparation, and prayer, in addition to recruiting and equipping members of the worship team. Our current worship team includes a number of talented vocalists, a regular pianist, and an occasional guitarist. We’d love to hire someone proficient with a guitar and comfortable leading worship while playing, but we’re open to whoever God brings our way and whatever gifts the Holy Spirit has cultivated in them. We believe that, regardless of style, worship is at its best when its passionate and authentic.

Given our size and needs, we anticipate the Worship Pastor serving and leading in areas beyond the worship ministry, based on their gifting and interests. We think this is an exciting opportunity for someone to get involved in the life of the local church in whatever ways they can!
